Psychomare is a psychoanalaytic dance film created through XR virtual production, exploring nightmares as reflections of our psychological misrecognitions. Set in a digital environment—the sea of the unconscious—modern dancer Peng Zhou embodies the intermediary between tangible dream objects and virtual nightmare entities. Each nightmare interaction triggers emotional disturbances, visually represented by particle-formed nightmare fragments that interact dynamically with the dancer. Employing an extended LED stage and virtual production technology, this performance blurs reality and virtuality, vividly expressing the emotional intensity of encountering symbolic nightmare entities—the Strange Hand, the Mysterious Hurricane, and the Face in the Mirror. Ultimately, the film encourages viewers to confront and reconcile with their unconscious fears, not by overcoming nightmares but by understanding and accepting them.
